Humayun Ahmed (13 November 1948 – 19 July 2012) was a Bangladeshi writer, dramatist, screenwriter, filmmaker, songwriter, scholar and lecturer. He is regarded as the best writer after the independence of Bangladesh.He is said to be the pioneer of modern Bengali science fiction.He is the father of the new style of dialogue in Bengali fiction.From the end of the seventies to the beginning, he was a non-verbal artisan of Bangla story and novel. In this period, the popularity of his novels was unmatched. His breakthrough was his debut novel NonditoNoroke published in 1972. He wrote over 200 fiction and non-fiction books, many of which were bestsellers in Bangladesh. His books were the top sellers at the Ekushey Book Fair during the 1990s and 2000s. He won the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1981 and the EkusheyPadak in 1994 for his contribution to Bengali literature.
